Meet the Team
We recognize that all of our patients are unique and deserve to receive orthodontic care that reflects their individual needs. Our experienced and talented team is committed to working with you and your family to create a comfortable, stress-free, and rewarding orthodontic experience every time you visit our practice. We are pleased to welcome you and your family, and we look forward to working with you.
Office Manager/Treatment Coordinator
I am here to assist patients and parents during their initial office visit and ensure their experience is both pleasant and informative, and that when they leave the office, they have all the information they need to proceed and feel confident in the decision they are making. I started working in our office in 1989 as a non-certified assistant, then took my Orthodontic Module at UBC in 1992. I have truly worked in every single position in the office from sterilizing, assisting, reception, financial, and now treatment coordinator and office manager.
We have an amazing team in that we truly all enjoy each other and really do have fun each and every day we come in to work. I have been so fortunate to work with two doctors that do incredible work and are passionate about their profession, and a staff that all strive to make every patient feel comfortable and well cared for.
My daughter, Kasey, and I are fortunate to be living in the county and enjoy camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and gardening. When we are not off exploring, we can be found spending time with family or playing around with the horses, always with our dog, Mischief, in tow.
Certified Dental Assistant/Treatment Coordinator
I received my Certified Dental Assisting training in Edmonton in 1975, and received my orthodontic designation from University of British Columbia in 1978. I also was an instructor for the Orthodontic Module at UBC in Kelowna for five years before joining this practice in 1985. My education in orthodontics is vital, but I think that the most valuable things I share with patients come from my own experience with braces. I understand first-hand the needs, challenges, and gratification that our patients experience.
I feel very fortunate to work with doctors who do excellent work, and are passionate about their profession and the patients they treat. It is easy to work for someone who creates smiles you are proud to be a part of!
I have lived in the area for 54 years, and love living in such a beautiful part of the world. My husband, Emil, and I have a small beef operation on the Shuswap River. We have one daughter and a son in-law, but best of all, two grandbaby boys, aged five years and ten months! Camping, fishing, and exploring with them keeps us busy. I enjoy farming; my cows are my pets! I also like to run and enjoy yoga, and some day hope to do all the woodworking and yard projects I have been planning.
Administrative Assistant/Director of Promotion
I greet our patients when they first come in to the office and assist everyone in the office, from administrative tasks at the front to helping the doctor and clinical assistants. I am also the schedule guru and will help coordinate your appointments. One of my favorite aspects of my job is getting to know our patients and hearing what they have to say that day. They are all such bright and interesting people!
I also really like working with our team because we all have positive attitudes and keep things fun and lighthearted over the day. Our office is really a pleasant place to be, and it’s no wonder why: we create beautiful smiles all day!
My favorite pastimes include reading, exploring nature around BC, attending music festivals, yoga, art, doing pottery, holistic health, travelling, and hiking. I also love spending time and playing with my two big dogs, one loyal black lab and one large silly poodle, as well as my cat who is full of personality!
Public Relations/General Staff Support
I wear a few different hats at Shuswap Orthodontics, though I am usually found with Christi at the front desk assisting patients and families. You may also see me running around town visiting with dentists and the community on behalf of Shuswap Orthodontics. I officially became a member of this team in 2013, but my experience in dentistry started in 2002 when I became Mrs. Broadwell! As Brian's wife, I have enjoyed witnessing his many academic accomplishments while in pursuit of the mastery of dentistry. He is the dental professional you want on your team.
There is a true happiness and eagerness to help at Shuswap Orthodontics that makes for a fun and light atmosphere. We all look out for one another and share the vision of providing the best experience possible for our patients and families. Dr. Smith created a special environment here and we are blessed to have been able to become such a welcomed part of it.
I am a very proud wife and mother of two. Together, our family enjoys skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and traveling. I also proudly serve as a member of the Development and Community Relations Committee at our children’s school. When given time to myself, I enjoy practicing yoga and Pilates, cooking, reading, and chatting with good friends.
